The production of Rommulo Vieira Conceição starts from the overlapping of elements present in public and private spaces. In his works, objects and the architecture are reorganized, thus fusing different environments in order to cause symbolic and functional displacements. This artwork was created based on field research conducted by the artist himself in Brumadinho, Mário Campos, and other cities surrounding Instituto Inhotim, in addition to Belo Horizonte and the historical cities of Minas Gerais. In it, one can notice the juxtaposition of arches, vaults, walls, grates, scaffolding, crocks, and pediments, recalling the history of architecture and art. The installation puts together a collection of architectural devices arising from the artist’s observation of sacred spaces, though disconnected from the original context, finding another connection to a kind of square or ecumenical monument. The arches lose the structural function and serve to sustain nothing, or perhaps they no longer sustain the representation of the sky in sacred architecture to allow the actual sky to be seen through them. The work conducts the gaze towards different perspectives, highlighting the disorientation of this space in a state of construction. The fragments of sacred architecture blend into a scholar sectioned architecture, and once together, they evoke the idea of faith in knowledge and in a joint construction of humanity.
